PostSubject: IGNORE THIS   Fri Feb 10, 2012 10:42 am

Had this idea not too long ago to make the strength of Spells more realistic relative to a characters Rank. I always imagined that an S Class Mage casting a D-Rank spell could still possesses catastrophic results as they would obviously have a greater mastery over lower class spells which have been available to them since they were D-Rank Mages themselves. A great example of what I'm getting at is Cana trying to cast Fairy Glitter... Obviously the spell was only a fraction of how powerful it could have been in the hands of a greater Mage. So, I devised a Strength Multiplier displaying the gap in the level of power between higher and lower rank mages casting the same level spell.

    Mages Rank = Spell Ranks
    D-Class = E----D------C----B---A
    C-Class = E------D-------C--B--A
    B-Class = E---------D-----C---B--A--S
    A-Class = E---------D-----C---B----A-SZ
    S-Class = E---------D------C------B----A--S---Z
    X-Class = E---------D------C-------B-----A---S-Z
    Z-Class = E---------D------C-------B-----A---S--Z

This is obviously a rough copy of what I'm trying to show you... They don't match up exactly as I would like them to but it shows the general gap in power depending on the level of mastery as well as the maximum strength level of lower class spells. As you can see, E-Class spells cannot grow in power and are fairly simple aids. D and C class spells achieve their full potential around B and A rank. (Note that the lines don't match up perfectly so its slightly off...) The power gab between low level spells is quite severe as you can see. Basically any C-Rank spell cast by any mage can break through a D-Rank spell cast by anyone regardless of rank because the low ranks can only possess so much power. However, at higher ranks ones magical power is obviously much greater so a C-Rank spell cast by an Ace would equal a D-Class Mages B-Rank spell strength.

Took me a minute but I finally comprehend what you are trying to say XD That is actually a really creative idea and is rather true it's like to Air Magi both launching the same spell, however one is a D rank and the other an A rank. the A ranks magi's spell would over whelm the D ranks...am I on the right track? If so this is a really cool idea, I can draw up a better verios of your diagram if needed.

I actually just forgot to delete this... I posted it here to show it to a friend because I was going to suggest it to another forum that uses a spell based magic system. I posted it here because its relatively inactive and thought nobody would be on long enough to see it lol... But hey, if you like the idea by all means use it.
